How to Care for Cashmere

Cashmere is soft because its fibers are fine and delicate. That means rough washing, aggressive wringing, and poor storage can change the shape or feel of the garment.

1Follow the care label

Some cashmere pieces can be hand washed while others are best professionally cleaned. The care label is the safest place to start.

2Do not hang heavy knits for long periods

A heavy sweater can stretch at the shoulders on a hanger. Folding is often a better choice for storage.

3Let it air between wears

You do not always need to clean a cashmere sweater after one light wear. Let it air out and clean it when needed.

4Clean before seasonal storage

Food, oils, and invisible residue can attract pests. Put cashmere away clean and completely dry.
